Security camera questions

Practical answers about camera types, Wi-Fi and 4G, placement, night vision, storage, subscriptions and choosing a system for UAE properties.

What security camera brands does Wideway sell in Dubai?

Wideway sells Anker eufy, EZVIZ and IMOU security cameras. The range covers indoor pan-and-tilt cameras, outdoor Wi-Fi cameras, battery and solar cameras, 4G cameras, video doorbells, smart locks and multi-camera systems for homes and small businesses.

What is the best security camera for a Dubai home or villa?

The best camera depends on power, coverage and storage. Battery or solar cameras suit locations without wiring; outdoor pan-and-tilt cameras cover wider entrances and gardens; indoor cameras suit rooms and pets; local-storage systems suit buyers who want to minimize recurring cloud fees.

Should I choose wired or wireless security cameras?

Choose wired cameras for continuous power, stable recording and larger permanent systems. Choose wireless Wi-Fi cameras for faster installation and flexible placement. Battery cameras remove the power cable too, but they require charging or solar support and record differently from a continuously powered CCTV system.

Do I need Wi-Fi for a security camera?

Most smart cameras need Wi-Fi for live viewing, alerts and app control. A 4G camera uses a mobile data SIM where fixed internet is unavailable. Some cameras can continue recording locally during an internet outage, but remote access and notifications normally resume only when connectivity returns.

How many security cameras do I need?

A small apartment may need two to four cameras, while a villa or business often needs more. Count every independent approach: main door, rear door, driveway, garden, side passage and important indoor area. Final quantity depends on viewing angle, blind spots and whether one camera can cover multiple zones.

Where should security cameras be placed?

Prioritize entry doors, driveways, side passages, gardens, loading areas and rooms containing valuable equipment. Mount cameras high enough to resist tampering but low enough to capture useful facial detail. Avoid direct glare, moving trees and angles that record mostly sky or a blank wall.

What type of security camera night vision is best?

Infrared night vision gives dependable black-and-white images in darkness. Full-colour night vision uses a sensitive sensor or white light to preserve colour details. Choose based on available lighting, required identification distance and whether visible illumination would disturb neighbours or attract attention.

Do security cameras require a monthly subscription?

Not always. Many eufy, EZVIZ and IMOU models support local recording to a HomeBase, microSD card or network recorder without a mandatory cloud plan. Optional cloud backup and advanced services may carry recurring fees, so check the exact model and required features before buying.

How is security camera footage stored?

Common storage options are microSD cards inside each camera, a central HomeBase or NVR, and cloud storage. Local storage avoids depending entirely on a subscription; cloud storage protects recordings if equipment is damaged or stolen. Capacity, retention time and compatibility vary by model.

Are outdoor security cameras suitable for UAE heat and dust?

Use an outdoor-rated camera with the manufacturer’s stated weather and temperature limits, installed away from avoidable direct heat where possible. An IP65, IP66 or IP67 rating indicates different levels of dust and water resistance, but correct seals, cable protection and mounting remain essential.

Projector screen questions

Clear guidance on screen size, ALR and white surfaces, UST compatibility, aspect ratio, gain, mounting and installation planning.

What size projector screen should I buy?

Choose screen size from seating distance, projector throw ratio, image resolution and room width. A 100- to 120-inch 16:9 screen suits many homes and meeting rooms, but the projector must produce that image size from the available mounting position without excessive zoom or digital correction.

What is the best projector screen for a bright room?

An ALR screen is usually the better choice when windows or room lights cannot be fully controlled. Its optical surface directs more projector light toward viewers while reducing off-axis ambient light. The correct ALR material must still match the projector type, throw direction and seating position.

What is an ALR projector screen?

ALR means Ambient Light Rejecting. An ALR projector screen uses an optical surface that reflects light arriving from the projector toward the audience while reducing unwanted light from other directions. It improves perceived contrast in brighter rooms but does not replace a sufficiently bright, correctly positioned projector.

Does an ultra-short-throw projector need a special screen?

A UST projector performs best with a UST-compatible ALR or CLR screen engineered for light arriving steeply from below. A standard long-throw ALR surface can reject the projector’s own image. Confirm the exact screen material, projector model and installation geometry before ordering.

Is a fixed-frame or motorized projector screen better?

A fixed-frame screen provides a consistently flat surface and suits a dedicated cinema. A motorized screen retracts when a shared living room, classroom or meeting room needs the wall for other uses. Choose tab tension when you want a retractable screen with improved edge-to-edge flatness.

What do projector screen gain and viewing angle mean?

Screen gain describes how strongly a surface reflects light relative to a reference white surface. Higher gain can make the image brighter from central seats but may narrow the viewing angle or create hot spots. Lower or neutral gain usually provides more even brightness across wider seating.

Should I choose a 16:9 or 4:3 projector screen?

Choose 16:9 for modern video, streaming, home cinema and most current presentation projectors. Choose 4:3 mainly for legacy presentation systems or specific business and education content. Matching the screen aspect ratio to the projector prevents unused borders and avoids cropping the image.

How much does a projector screen cost in Dubai?

Projector screen prices depend on size, fabric, frame, motor, tensioning and installation method. Basic manual or motorized screens cost less than ALR, tab-tension, in-ceiling and floor-rising systems. Check the live Wideway catalog for current AED prices and request a project quote for installation.

What measurements are needed before installing a projector screen?

Measure the available wall width and height, ceiling height, screen drop, viewing distance and projector position. Check power access, cable routes, ceiling structure, obstructions and door clearance. For recessed screens, confirm the housing dimensions and service access before closing the ceiling.

Can Wideway deliver and support projector screen installation?

Yes. Wideway supplies projector screens from Bur Dubai with UAE-wide delivery and installation support for fixed-frame, motorized, in-ceiling, floor-rising and large-venue systems. Send the room dimensions, ceiling details, projector model and required screen size for an accurate recommendation and quote.
